Most of us artists have a passion for creating original characters, but sometimes the original can be a struggle. This course not only talks about the basics of creating and drawing characters, but also everything that I’ve learnt over the years in order to truly make them unique and give them personality.
In this course, we’ll go through the basics you need before putting pen to paper (or iPad/tablet!) and the method I personally use to design characters, as well as each and every step of my illustration process from first line to last edit. But what will be the focus is what you want to create—and I’ll be there to guide you the entire way!
By the end, you’ll already have designed several of your own characters, and you’ll be ready to create even more going forward.
My name is Kanda,
I'm a freelance illustrator and content creator who spends most days drawing or dreaming up worlds! I’ve been doing art since I was thirteen, mostly self-taught. Before going full-time freelancer, I worked in the game industry for three years after having finished my bachelor's degree in game design and graphics—which also means I have a background in 3D modeling. Now, I’ve been a Twitch partner for five years, streaming both art and games! Over those years I’ve also created two big universes—one of which has a webtoon—and tenfold of original characters. With this course, I hope to share the knowledge I’ve gathered as well as share the technique and method I use to create!

You’ll have an entire workflow to follow in creating character portraits—a method divided into several easy-to-follow steps.
Course content
The course has 7 modules for 8+ hours of learning and practicing. You can pause and replay the videos as much as you want, and take the course in your own time. The course is suitable for everyone since there is no explicit content. It is mainly targeted to artists who have the very basics established already, but is beginner-friendly! It would also be best to take the course in order, since lessons will grow more advanced as you progress.

We will look together at the materials, basic techniques, and knowledge needed to begin this journey. Approaching a new technique means first learning how best to use the tools at your disposal.

Theory is important, but what makes you a true artist is practice... Lots of practice! You'll find lots of exercises to get started with and from which to get inspiration. I will show you some tricks that will make your drawings truly unique and masterpieces.
